Rohan,
While I have issues with much of what you say in the piece, I think it
is stuff which others will point out, and want to limit my feedback to
two points of writing style:
1) The 'voice' used in your piece seems a bit confused; in the first
paragraph I felt as though you were attempting to introduce the OS
landscape to someone who is (very) unfamiliar with operating systems,
yet in the rest you mention things like WINE without any explanation.
Who is the audience for this?
2) There are no citations for any data given, or even a rough idea of
where any of it comes from. If this is meant to be more of an Op/Ed
piece a la "I, Cringley" (http://www.pbs.org/cringley) it is a bit more
forgivable; but it's is still nice to give us readers an idea of where
you are getting these things from.
Regards,
V
