Honestly, I've found Ubuntu so close to Debian testing/unstable that
they're nearly indistinguishable -- right down to the ncurses-based
installer on the Alternate and Server Disks, which _is_ exactly the
Debian d-i installer. (There are a whole lot of little differences that
don't matter much, starting with default sudo-only access to root
authority.)
Unless you really, really want X11 and GNOME on a server box, you might
want to start with the Ubuntu Server ISO.
