I've seen a lot of these threads.  I mean _a_lot_.

If you asked me what I couldn't live without, it'd be simple stuff.  vi,
cp, cat, grep, sed, perl, mutt, nmap, ping, bash, &c.  The reason I couldn't
live without those is what they make possible though.

What makes linux great is that technologies like http, smtp, and the like are
all really easy to get software for.  If you want to run a web server, it 
takes your distro's packaging system and a few seconds vi'ing the config file.

You just can't get that same functionality out of W*.  And you can't get it
without the disgustingly huge GUI in OS X.
