Sounds like a good list

 I use that a lot.

 And that's really useful.

For scripted manipulation of images, like creating thumbnails from
a lot of photos,, batch conversion of .jpg files to .png files, etc, etc, etc,
there is the ImageMagick package, which is a collection of separate
programs, like convert and mogrify. I use this for processing images
from my digital camera. I have various perl and bash scripts that
evoke ImageMagick programs for creating web pages.

By the way, since I've started using Ubuntu I've been using gThumb
to download photos from my camera. My complaint is that it seems
to want to create thumbnails from ALL the photos in the camera when
you plug in the camera and turn it on. The program I was using for
this under Fedora allowed you to do this selectively, which saved time
and temporary disk space. What else is available on Ubuntu that
might solve that problem?
