In an effort to hurt my reputation right out of the door, let me say that
there are only two editors in my life.
1) nano
Based on the original pico which comes from UW (my alma mater) and a
celebrated piece of the pine mail system. Pine was my first exposure to the
unix system, so it learned it before I ever touched slack. The tool is
simple and lets me get in, make the changes, and get out. Recently the nano
development team has been engaged in a bit of feature creep, so I worry about
become more like vi, but it hasn't gotten too bad yet.
2) kate
Yes, I love me some KDE. Kate is my preferred IDE, supporting nearly every
known scripting, markup, and high ordered language on the planet. Plus, with
a little XML knowledge I've been able to write a new syntax highlighter for
template-toolkit. I wish it had a better Search+Replace through multiple
files tool (as in, I wish it had one, period). Aside from that, I think it's
the way to go if you do web development.
