How about window managers?

IMHO, nothing beats the productivity facilitated by tiling window
managers. In particular, I've been using the wmii[1] family of WM
for the past two years (after trying ratpoison, larswm, and ion of
course). wmii-3.1 is superb in terms of scriptability[2].

Sorry GNOME, KDE, blackbox, ..., e17 but you're all just WIMPs[3]. ;-)
