You're right. Incompetence and dishonesty do often appear similar. Of
course, they're difficult to distinguish from other rather unsavory personality
characteristics which you display, Rick. Take your pick which one you'd rather
have ascribed to you and let's be done with this, shall we?
I'm not sure from what you inferred "hasten with great glee". I can only
assume that you read it somewhere and thought it looked cool.
Furthermore, I've seen for myself that the version of tar in question does
and have offered to demonstrate that it definitely came from Debian. You
seem to be claiming that Debian's gotten better after this particular mishap
though you've utterly failed at saying so, though you've refused to acknowledge
this mishap and its severity.
I ought to reiterate -- credibility is earned in my book. One great way to
lose it is by distributing a binary (even if they've stopped at present) which
removes historical options from a package which the maintainers have taken
pains to leave in.

I'm not sure why it would be. This thread has been entirely about yours
(and infrequently Debian's) shortcomings. I said nothing in particular about
how I felt about what people think of you or Debian.
