[SlugLUG] Help a friend of mine figure out if he has a viable idea?

The member in question has been re-subscribed to the list with an
apology.  I allowed the flamewar to continue mainly because it was a
mildly interesting discussion (even if there was more flame than fact)
and it was more activity than the list had seen in the past few months.
