Actually, it's not just DHCP access that is controlled by some new Windows
or Mac app, it's logging on to the network. Even from Windows, without
the new app (or maybe it's your MAC address being registered), you
can only access the internal campus network. I was only able to do that
from Windows yesterday (and from Linux on the same laptop I couldn't
get an IP).
One can only speculate about the implementation so far.
