If you are considering Debian testing vs unstable though, you could
track the same thing in Ubuntu. Except you'd get Ubuntu's slant of more
bleeding edge desktop bits. IME, Debian testing is pretty decent to
follow if it is within a few months of a release. Unstable is ok too,
but depending on how you like things, it may be too much flux.
Switching up to Ubuntu's testing/unstable wouldn't require an os
reinstall either I don't think, so it would be easier than going Debian.
