[SlugLUG] Slow download speed when connect to resnet

My experience with networking on campus is only with wireless, but
from my experience with that I'd say support is oriented to Windows
and Macintosh only. I suspect the initial dhcp conversation with Linux
identifies the system as being neither, which confuses evil
ResNet/UCSC software.

Logging initially from XP gives you a dhcp lease, after which some of
the initial handshaking is bypassed when you reboot into Linux with
the same MAC address. That's my theory.

Hopefully someone with more ResNet/Linux experience will provide
further details.
